The Boeung Kak lake community prayed with about 150 monks and made offerings to be purified from the vicious crackdown by masked thugs and police on a peacefull hunger strike at Wat Phnom on September 22nd. Several residents were badly injured by slingshot projected marble balls. Journalists who were present were also precisely targeted and hurt by marble balls and tasers. See HERE before the crackdown.

We are at the height of rainy season. Flooding has been going on for quite a while up North-East. Nearly 10,000 families have been displaced, 30 people, mostly children, died. With more heavy rains and with the water now coming down the Mekong, the levels are a few centimeters below the alert limit in Phnom Penh.
It is still not as bad as in 2011. You can see those photographs HERE.

Phnom Penh is going through its annual drainage: citizens are leaving for their home village to celebrate the spirits of their ancestors during the week-long Pchum Ben festival.
More on Pchum Ben HERE…
On the occasion of Pchum Ben, Sam Rainsy, opposition CNRP President, hurt in his flesh during the March 1997 grenade attack on a demonstration by the Sam Rainsy Party in front of the previous National Assembly building which left 16 dead, has commemorated the assassination attempt together with relatives of the victims, the opposition CNRP co-President Kem Sokha and other CNRP leaders and supporters.
No one was ever arrested for the attack.
It is that time of the year again. All the Cambodians, old and young, rich and poor, flock to the pagodas to pay respect and pray to the spirits of their ancestors. The roads are crowded, the journeys hazardous, the pick-up trucks overloaded. In the first ten months of 2012, 1589 people were killed in traffic related accidents, a little more than 5 per day. That is 1589 more spirits to pray for for the next year.

A 6-hour long speech about the reforms which will be undertaken during his 5-year long mandate by Mr. Hun Sen, the new Cambodian Prime Minister who is the same as 28 years ago, have not yet started to come into effect. Some 2000 to 3000 workers from SL Garment Processing (Cambodia) Ltd., still not satisfied with the answers to their requests (see HERE for more photographs), tried to march to their Prime Minister’s office but were blocked by about 500 riot police and fire trucks in an impressive show of force. Negociations between representatives of the workers and Rot Srieng, the brand new Military Police Chief of Phnom Penh resulted in a truckload of workers’ representatives going to the ‘Peace Palace’ to talk to officials while the demonstration disbanded and the police forces retreated.
