Preparations for Water Festival are well under way. Starting tomorrow. I’ll leave Phnom Penh to the tens of thousand of Cambodians flocking to the capital and head for Kep. Try and find some quiet. It’ll be the first time in 9 years I miss the festival. Kind of tired of it anyhow. Not seeing things properly anymore. Repeating myself. Boring…

CAMBODIA. Prey Chit (Koh Kong). 23/08/2009: Protest signs put up by villagers under threat of an eviction. On October 12th, 43 families from four different villages received an ultimatum issued by the Court of Koh Kong to leave their home by October 27th, apparently to solve a land dispute involving 200 Ha between Sok Khong and Heng Huy, two owners of very big plantations nearby. The people live there since 1983.

The people at Damnak Trayoung are still there… In the heat.

CAMBODIA. Damnak Trayoung (Phnom Penh). 22/10/2009: Evicted from Dey Krohom nearly one year ago, some 135 families who were renting a house and therefore are not entitled any compensation, were dumped 20 km outside of Phnom Penh. Sanitary conditions are deplorable. Without running water, sewage system, electricity, or job opportunities, the evicted are worse off than before.

The reason for all the evictions is DEVELOPMENT they say. So what is happening with the real estate development projects here in the Penh? I might try and dig a little deeper in there for the coming months…

I met the deadline for the MM on the Khmer Rouge Tribunal to be projected during the PPPhoto festival end of November… Now it is up to the censors to see if you’ll see it there. If they don’t let it through I’ll make it available as a podcast on my server.

So now back to the normal business again… evictions…

I am VERY itchy not taking pictures. Final Cut is revealing some of its secrets (thanks to Bora at Bophana and Chris Kelly), but I am not through my ordeal yet…
