Unions hold forbidden demonstration
Just before the next leg of negotiations this monday between Thailand and Cambodia about the border dispute, a demonstration planned (and prohibited by the municipality) in front of the former National Assembly by two of the main unions to support Cambodia’s Preah Vihear turned out into a two-man protest with Rong Chhun, head of the teacher’s union and Chea Mony, leader of the SIORC, waving a banner and answering journalist questions. They then both met again at the SIORC office where a small demonstration of about 50 militants was held before it was dispersed by the riot police. (VIJ2008062)
