Tomorrow Cambodia enters a new period of mourning for the late King Norodom Sihanouk and demonstrations will be perceived very badly. But there is still today. And as the French Prime Minister, Jean-Marc Ayrault will be attending the ceremonies, the 11 communities under threat of an eviction staged a demonstration in front of the French Embassy.
This is a follow-up post on the ‘Quest for Land‘ story which is available as an iApp on iTunes.
Yes: all with the Sony RX1…
In the endless saga of the Boeung Kak Lake (see here, here and here): the Ministry of Interior has sent a 3rd injunction to the Municipality to finally settle things for the Boeung Kak Lake community regarding the 12,44 ha for the on-site development but mainly for the families not included in the plan. So the Boeung Kak Lake community made its way through a fairly weak police blockade to the Municipality building, requesting an explanation for the Municipality’s inertia.
For the camera geeks: these are the first photographs taken with the Sony RX1 in my usual environment. I am struggling quite a bit… Haven’t found a way to get the autofocus respond to my needs. 30% of the pictures are out of focus. I need to put a mark in the center of my optical viewfinder corresponding to the central AF area. I guess that might help. I’ll post a more detailed report on the camera after I have used it more. When sharp the files are quite nice. And the camera is quiet and delightfully light.
Well… almost…
Next W.E should be interesting and productive… Final days of the King Norodom Sihanouk funeral (see here)…

I nearly forgot about the full moon last night. The last one before the cremation of King Norodom Sihanouk (see here). That means there was a big gathering of monks in front of the Royal Palace. Not so obvious to think about if you don’t live with the moon cycles. You get to know these special occasions mostly by chance here. I spotted a more than usual concentration of elderly people in front of the palace the morning after the rehearsal for next week’s procession, and a pattern laid out in the grass. Sure enough at 5pm a few thousand monks showed up… King Norodom Sihamoni and the Queen Mother came outside of the palace to pray.
An iBook about King Norodom Sihanouk should be available on the iTunes Bookstore soon…
One week before the actual procession which will carry the remains of late King Norodom Sihanouk (see here) to the funeral pyre in front of the National Museum, a second rehearsal was staged on Sisowath Quay. 1.2 million people are expected to attend the 4-day-long ceremony.
