Epilogue?

Went back to Oudong at the relocation site for the 387 families from Damnak Trayoung, ex Dey Krohom evicted. I do have some doubts about this site. At least half of it, the part with the most families, will be flooded during rainy season. There is no drinking water, there are no latrines (there doesn’t even seem to be a place planned for them), there are no job opportunities, there is no reasonable (financially) connection with the capital (40Km, one way…), there is no electricity, there is no health facility (NGO LICADHO is as usual providing health care, be it minimal), there might be a school somewhere in the area (but can it cope with the influx of 387 families?).

Are the authorities THINKING when they relocate people like that? They probably are, but do you really want to know WHAT they are thinking?

CAMBODIA. Oudong (Kandal). 18/12/2009: Construction of a new house. All the families which were dumped at Damnak Trayoung after the Jan. 2008 Dey Krohom eviction, finally, after one year, were taken to a place, in a rice field 40 km from Phnom Penh, where they will be able to claim ownership for a 4x8m plot.
