Boeung Kak Lake: scenes of violence yet again

Boeung Kak Lake was the scene of yet more violence and destruction. The authorities moved in and destroyed houses located outside the 12,44 Ha granted by Prime Minister Hun Sen for on-site relocation for about 750 families. Development company Shukaku Inc. bought a 99-year lease to the 144 Ha of Boeung Kak Lake, filled the lake with sand from the Mekong river and evicted some 3000 families.

Riot police advanced protecting two excavators, inhabitants tried to resist peacefully, the machines destroyed a few houses. People threw a few stones. Police beat up a man who was carried, unconscious, to the hospital. The rain started to fall. Tomorrow the destruction will continue…
