This is not a pipe

Surrealist painter René Magritte was famous for painting a pipe and writing underneath ‘This is not a pipe’. Well, the water authorities must have followed a workshop with Magritte in a previous life, because after some 40 houses disappeared in the Tonle Sap river because of a landlside on April 1st, the Water Ressources Minister said, reacting on the presence of sand dredging boats downstream,  “As the president of Sand Management Committee in the Kingdom of Cambodia, I never allow sand dredging business along the Tonle Sap River. The pile of sand that [you] see is not the ones which were pumped from the river, but transported on a boat from other places for sale,”

Right… Then I guess these pipes I photographed (VIJ2008023G) spewing dredged sand 250 meters downstream of the collapsed riverbank are not pipes…

But fear not. The Navy is guarding the place…
