My short yearly trip to Europe has three advantages: I can eat strawberries for breakfast, and I can scan old negatives while AT THE SAME TIME watching the Tour de France.
A few of the never edited/never published/never scanned photographs from my 1985 trip to Burkina Faso. From the story ‘Water in Sahel‘ you can see here.
In the series ‘This is not Belgium’… On July 11th in 1302, a bunch of Flemish beat the shit out of an army of French knights and took their golden spurs as a trophy. So goes the story… It has become the day for the Flemish Community of Belgium to remind the other French speaking half of the country that they are special. That other half of the country has the same kind of celebration to show they are not like the first half every year on September 27th. And every year since 1831, on July 21st, BOTH communities celebrate the independence of Belgium and the fact that they are living together. Is Belgium an interesting country or what?

Checking out things in the other Kingdom of Wonder… I’m off to Brussels tonight. Staying there for the next three weeks…

It is not all about demonstrations… The Boeung Kak Lake community organised a press conference a couple of hours ago as it has to face dissensions and several allegations of corruption which were triggered by a series of films posted on Youtube at the beginning of the legislative elections campaign. The origin of the films are unclear. It is not the first time the community has to face dissent. Divide to rule…

King Albert II abdicated in favour of Prince Filip.
Here is when King Baudouin passed away and he became King.
And yes, this is happening in Belgium. More on Belgium at these links: here, here, and here. And more recently here and here.
Boeung Kak Lake was at it again yesterday and this morning, protesting in front of the Phnom Penh Municipality to seek a final resolution on the land issue they are entangled in since 2007. See here, and here and also see ‘Quest for Land’ an app for the iPad which covers 10 years of land issues in Cambodia.
But today they also tried to reach Prime Minister Hun Sen’s house on Sihanouk Boulevard, a traditional no-demonstration area. In a push and shove sequence with the police lasting several hours, the Boeung Kak Lake women made about 400 meters’ progress.
The result is this series of ‘push pictures’…
