While little progress was made between the ruling CPP and the opposition CNRP on the issue of putting together an independent investigation system to check on the alleged fraud issues during the 2013 Cambodian parliamentary elections of July 28th, and while Phnom Penh is getting ready for a mass gathering organised by the CNRP next monday, the development projects on Koh Pich island proceed (see the series on development projects on places people were evicted from HERE). Where the vegetable growers for Phnom Penh once collected their crop, shopping malls and fake Parisian architecture rises.
While no progress was made between the ruling CPP and the opposition CNRP on the issue of putting together an independent investigation system to check on the alleged fraud issues during the 2013 Cambodian parliamentary elections of July 28th, the strike at SL Garment Processing (Cambodia) Ltd. goes on (see also HERE). Negociations didn’t lead anywhere either. The factory is specialized in various wet & dry processes for denim jeans and the dyeing treatment for woven items for Zara, Yves Saint Laurent, Levi’s, Wrangler etc…
While negotiations are ongoing between the ruling CPP and the opposition CNRP about an investigation regarding alleged frauds during the Cambodian 2013 parliamentary elections, held on July 28th and which saw the CPP lose a considerable amount of seats to the CNRP, some 300 to 400 people gathered for the second time (first time HERE) at Wat Phnom to pray for a peacefull resolution of the crisis. Increasing the tension a few notches, armoured vehicles and tanks are sporadically spotted around Phnom Penh, and several hundred Military Police were being trained in crowd control techniques during a supposedly discreet session at the Olympic Stadium.
While the results of the Cambodian 2013 parliamentary elections are still not ratified by the opposition CNRP and FUNCINPEC, the farmers complete the ever returning cycle of rice growing in the countryside.

Sam Rainsy, president of the CNRP (Cambodian National Rescue Party) opposition party, returned to Cambodia after having attended his daughter’s wedding in the U.S.A. during a stalemate with the ruling CPP about the July 28th parliamentary elections results. Among many other historical figures he was the lawyer for Khieu Samphan, ex Khmer Rouge leader, currently being tried at the ECCC (Extraordinary Chambers at the Courts of Cambodia).
As a reminder: ’30 Years for a Trial’, the e-book for the iPad is available HERE at the iBookstore on iTunes.
’30 Years for a Trial’ is both a report on the trial of Duch, the infamous director of S21, a Khmer Rouge interrogation centre where 15,000 people were tortured and killed, and a photographic reflection on the difficulty of photographing the Cambodian genocide. With texts by Robert Carmichael and photographs by John Vink it gives some graphical insight and background information on what may well be the only Khmer Rouge to be sentenced by the ECCC.
Civil Society groups and NGO’s staged a gathering for a peacefull resolution of the political stalemate after the 2013 Cambodian elections with a rather confused coordination. One group showed up in front of the Royal Palace, while the other was demonstrating at Wat Phnom. Ubiquity is not human.
