More than twenty years ago I photographed Sam Sathya at the classical dance section of the Fine Arts school. Today, with three dancers from the new generation, she is rehearsing Khmeropédies, a choreography by Emmanuèle Phuon. They will perform in Hong Kong next week and in New York this summer. I highly recommend that you see this performance, an interesting shift from classical Khmer ballet into contemporary dance.

I stumbled upon this link from the INA.fr website about an interview Ronny Brauman, former head of MSF, and I gave back in 1994 on the occasion of the opening of my exhibition on refugees at the Centre National de la Photographie in Paris, curated by Robert Delpire. The book Réfugiés in the Photo Notes collection came out at the same time.

Unfortunately I don’t have the bandwith to look at it. I hope I don’t sell rubbish…

Nothing to do with your phone. Roam means dance in Khmer. The CCF (French Cultural Center), in collaboration with Amrita and Ponleu Selpak, set up 8 stages in front of Wat Bothum and had dancers perform in front of a captivated audience. Showing there is more to dance than Apsaras or coconut clapping.

One step ahead… We’re getting somewhere…

These pictures happen when you’re bored, sitting in a crowded taxi on bumpy roads for hours… You know they won’t fit in the story. But at least it keeps you busy for a while.

You can find it here…

There is quite lot of material about the Koh Ker story to edit from. It’ll take me at least a day or so to sift through the whole set.

Here is a first teaser…

Enjoy the respite…
