ASEAN Warmup…
ASEAN grassroots organisations, ranging from evicted communities to garment workers, forest communities, or sex workers, held a series of workshops over the past days in order to reach a number of recommendations which will be handed over to the leaders of the countries gathered at the ASEAN meeting. The workshops were hampered by numerous intimidations (electricity cut off at certain venues, attendants prevented to stay at certain guesthouses, etc…).
Meanwhile the streets were emptied of beggars and streetchildren by the authorities because, as states Long Dimanche, the Municipality spokesperson, to the Phnom Penh Post: “If the leaders from across the world see beggars and children on the street, they might speak negatively to the government”.
8 people who had painted S.O.S. signs on the roof of their houses near Pochentong airport which are under threat of an eviction, were arrested.
