Give and don’t ask

Today the annual donor meeting will take place at the Council for the Development of Cambodia. Representatives from the private sector, embassies, government etc… will meet to see how much the foreign countries will pledge in aid money to Cambodia. Usually it is around half of the annual budget, and roughly what China chips in on its own. No questions asked… Well, much of the money is flowing back to foreign consultants anyhow.

In 2008 I attended one of these meetings for Ka-set, the website I ran here with a few other journalists until we ran out of money. The story is also on my website.

You might also take a look at the multimedia pieces I did for Ka-set… Just click on one of the pictures of that page (in French).
