Boeung Kak Ladies in Trouble
The demonstration by the Boeung Kak Lake residents under threat of an eviction by a development company turned ugly yesterday. The demonstration, asking for an on site relocation, was broken up by riot police after the authorities had a short talk with the demonstrators, and several arrests were made. According to LICADHO the following arrests were made: Raksmey 38 y o, Son Sophan 26 y o, Kem Vany 46 y o, Heng Mom 46 y o, Ly Mom 44 y o, Phov 47 y o, Ros Srey Neang 37 y o, Kong Sopheap ? y o, Kao Sothy 27 y o. Missing two names including a boy’s.
‘Evidence’ was collected by authorities: one umbrella, two plastic bottles filled with drinking water and several pieces of pavement. The umbrella was used as a ‘weapon’. The bottles were thrown on the police. The pieces of pavement were just lying around, added by the authorities and were never used as a projectile.
