Demo (small)

The Dey Krohom people staged a demo in front of the 7NG headquarters, adjacent to the land they were evicted from. Not many people showed up. Nearly as many NGO’s as demonstrators. Everyone photographing everyone. A car from the US Embassy slowly passed by with a (khmer) policeman next to the driver taking pictures.

  1. the power and the number of your photographs over the last 3 weeks is just staggering john……….

on a side note, i’ve just finished the remarkable memoir/biography “eaves of Heaven” by Andrew Pham ….like his first book “catfish mandala” a remarkable and poetic book about Vietnam….this, a memoir of his father’s life through 3 wars (the occupation of vietnam by the Japanese, the war against the French and then the war between the north and south/americans….a heartbreaking and astonishing book…just overwhelming…

though it is about vietnam, i would suggest you read it…the trauma inflicted in that nation and cambodia is a lesson for all of us, particularly those of us whove been by stupid luck been saved from so much suffering….

  2. Thanks for putting that on the list of books to buy Bob. Will do. Reading ‘Tristes Tropiques’ by Claude Lévi-Strauss for the moment (and for the second time, 20 years later)…
