Architect Vann Molyvann
Took a portrait of Mr. Vann Molyvann yesterday (VIJ2008005G). As a young, thirtyish-year old architect during the “Golden Age” of the sixties he dotted Phnom Penh with remarkable architectural landmarks (the Olympic Stadium, Suramarit theatre, the Building, and many others). He is 82 now and sees many of his buildings being either destroyed or disfigured. In a city caught up in a frenzy of bold development and arrogant urbanization, his wise voice of reason is not being listened to.
On the Dey Krohom front, besides a few scuffles yesterday morning when 7NG employees prevented vendors of bringing goods to their market stalls, everything is quiet. No more police, no more roadblocks. The quiet before the storm?
