Borei Keila WAS a showcase

The relocation of the Borei Keila community was supposed to be a model case in the history of Cambodian evictions: People living in poor lodging would be relocated on-site in 10 appartment buildings. Add a pinch of corruption, a zest of exclusion and about 50 families with at least one HIV positive member were shoved out of sight to the countryside… And now a sudden lack of money to build the remaining 2 buildings puts 386 families in limbo, not knowing what next.

CAMBODIA. Phnom Penh. 25/11/2011: Borei Keila community residents watching as workers, protected by police forces, try to erect a fence around a building to be destroyed. 386 residents are entangled in a conflict with Phanimex company which built only 8 of 10 promised appartment buildings where they would be relocated.
