20 years ago? And how about 40 years ago?
You’re in for a few celebrations this month…
Today the Tour de France starts in Monaco. I love bikes and bike racing, and was lucky enough to follow the Tour for the last victory of Bernard Hinault in 1985. But 40 years ago Eddy Merckx, “the cannibal”, took the start of the Tour de France and had the first of his 5 wins of the event, taking EVERYTHING from the yellow jersey to the mountains and points jerseys. I don’t have pictures of Eddy, even though his brother and I were at the same school in Etterbeek (his parents had a grocery store nearby).
The same month Eddy started his glorious years, man landed on the moon for the first time… My parents bought a (B&W) TV set for the occasion…
