DAY 18 and 20 Years

EXACTLY twenty years ago, during my first trip there, I got hooked on Cambodia…

CAMBODIA. Chhoeung Ek. 20/05/1989: Military during Hatred Day.

CAMBODIA. Chhoeung Ek (Phnom Penh). 20/05/2009: Reenactment of Khmer Rouge atrocities during Hatred Day. Initiated in 1984 by a regime seeking legitimacy, Hatred Day commemorates the directive of collectivism planned by Pol Pot. The celebration was stopped after the 1991 Paris Peace accords but was still attended to in the provinces. Phnom Penh reinstated it in 1999.

Otherwise, we received a little treat from the ECCC: a press conference…
