These are intriguing pictures of Cambodian soldiers and the gloomy situation they are in. They are very captivating and picturesque. Thanks for sharing these images with us. As a Khmer-American, these pictures bring me closer to the people and place that are so far away.

Very fine photographs that pull in to a human scale -- most shots of Preah Vihear are not so good -- and the perspective (point of view)on this is different and new. I like the side view of one of the gopuras and the blue water bottles and flip flops, as well as the soldier sleeping on the ancient block of stone.

Congrats.

I am from Burma originally.

ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT IMAGES JOHN! :))))...This 1st image is simply distilling...thrilling. One of the best i've seen from your work, really an iconic image. As if a god surveying, an angel, the ghost of all those years of civil war...and, i dont know why, but i never imagine a place in Cambodia high enough to usurp the clouds...but there are so many extraordinay images...and it's totally "confused" my understanding of the relationship between Cambodia and Thailand (not the historical one, but the contemporary reltionship: i had know idea). Moreover, the story, when coupled with your first story on the Temple, has grown in its complexity, all those images from the first now are intensified by the political drama unfolding around...

my favorite images (from your story): #1, 3(!!!), 4, 7., 11(!!!!!! :)) ), 16, 17, 18(!!), 19( like a color/cambodian version of your great image of the African men walking over the grass in Black/White, yes? ;) ), 22, 23, 28, 30, 34(!!!!), 35, 38, 39 40....

time bent back upon itself....

really, great and revealatory story John )))

cheers
bob

p.s love all the umbrella pics too
