Homecoming
There are nicer ways to come home…
Khem Sambo, 47yrs, journalist at the pro-opposition daily Moneaksekar Khmer, and his son, 21yrs, were killed by a lone gunner in the middle of the street on July 11th.
Today the cremation ceremony took place at the Toul Tompoung pagoda. Sambo is the 12th journalist killed in Cambodia since 1993.

oi….killed by whom John?….
you should forward to CPJ (Committee to Project Journalists)…they keep statistics on this and try their best to speak on the behalf of journalists….an important advocacy group:
they don’t yet have a record of Khem Sambo and son’s death….

John:
Did you get my first comment here, about CPJ?
Anyway, it’s a profound loss for Cambodia….12 journalists, given the immense history, it’s a profound tragedy…
thanks for letting us know in the West…

Anyway,
It would be great if you can follow up with his wife and siblings of the dead in a from of documentary. I am just wondering how they should support their lives with such a great loss. There must be some long term help for the shaved son … up there. It might be in a way of giving a scholarship and support of some kind until he can find a job.
I think u speak to someone about that.
It is a tragic scene to imagine living in such grief.
Regards,
Malis

Bob: as you can see I fished your CPJ post out of the spam box (don’t know how it ended up in there). Will let CPJ know…
Malis: good to hear from you. The family is quite screened off by the authorities for the moment and contact is difficult.
All: there is a multimedia slideshow on the Ka-set website (http://ka-set.info/actualites/k7-media.html)
